People Make the Place

At the Old Course Hotel, we believe a good job should bring good times – and support a good life. It’s our people who bring the place to life, with every role playing its part in shaping the experience, from the warm welcome at the door to the careful work behind the scenes that guests never see but always feel.

What makes working here so rewarding is the mix of people and paths that cross every day. Chefs, therapists, concierges, waiters, housekeepers and gardeners work side by side, supported by a dedicated office team – from IT and Finance to Marketing, HR and Events – all helping one another do their best work.

Across the resort, professional respect is a given and genuine friendships are formed, often spanning departments and generations. Our team ranges from ages 16 to 73, from first jobs and placements to second careers and long‑term hospitality professionals. People join us to learn, to grow, to change direction, or to build a career that lasts.

With long‑serving team members, colleagues from 38 nationalities and countless stories of progression, the Old Course Hotel is not only a destination for active wellbeing and indulgent good times – it’s a place where people stay, grow and thrive. A place that feels a lot like HOME.

Meet some of our team players

Behind every great guest experience is a great story. Meet a few of the people who help bring the Old Course Hotel to life from first careers to second acts, and journeys that span continents.

Shamraza Zalatif, Housekeeping

“Hard work is recognised here. If you are dedicated and loyal, there are real opportunities to grow.”

Having taught at college level for 10 years, Shamraza brought strong people skills and a passion for learning to her role at the Old Course Hotel. Joining in 2022 as a Room Attendant, she quickly progressed and is now a Training Champion within Housekeeping. She thrives in the hotel’s fast-paced, team-oriented environment and values the genuine support from management. Having completed extensive training, Shamraza now helps identify development opportunities within her department. For her, the most rewarding moments come from positive feedback and seeing the impact her attention to detail has on each guest’s stay.

Soma Orehoczki, Head Sommelier

“I’ve worked every job imaginable in the wine trade, but helping guests find a bottle they truly love is still the best part of my job.”

Soma Orehoczki brings a global perspective and a playful curiosity to every wine list at the Old Course Hotel. Born in Hungary, he has worked across Budapest and the UK, mastering every role in the trade before joining the hotel. At Road Hole Restaurant, The Jigger Inn, Hams Hame, and Swilcan Loft, Soma introduces guests to both classic favourites and hidden gems from emerging regions, pairing wines thoughtfully with each dish. Passionate, approachable, and full of knowledge and enthusiasm, he ensures every sip is memorable.

Gerry Hood-Leeder, Head Gardener

“There’s nothing better than seeing guests pause to admire a corner of the garden we’ve nurtured from scratch.”

With a degree in illustration, Gerry brings an artist’s eye to every corner of the Old Course Hotel grounds. After 13 years at Burncoose Nurseries in Cornwall where she earned multiple RHS Chelsea Flower Show medals she joined the team here in 2023, ready to adapt her creative, artful approach to the harsh Scottish climate. From drought-tolerant Mediterranean shrubs to pollinator-friendly plantings, as well as herbaceous perennials and fragrant herbs, Gerry’s work blends beauty and sustainability, delighting both the eyes and the senses.

Malcolm Wowk, Head of Golf Concierge

“Helping guests enjoy every moment on the incredible courses in the Home of Golf is what makes my job so special.”

Born and bred in St Andrews, Malcolm has golf in his DNA. His love for the game was sparked as a nine-year-old watching Costantino Rocca’s famous 1995 putt, and he’s been immersed in the sport ever since. Starting his career at St Andrews Links as a starter and ranger, Malcolm progressed to Head Starter at The Duke’s before joining the Old Course Hotel, first in concierge and now as Head of Golf Services. Passionate about creating seamless, unforgettable golf experiences, he thrives on helping guests navigate the Home of Golf while sharing his local insight, warmth, and love of the game.

Jessica Paton, Wedding Coordinator

“I thrive on making connections with couples, their guests, and our team - every wedding is a chance to make memories people will cherish forever.”

Meet Jess, our wedding coordinator, who brings couples’ dreams to life from the first enquiry right through to their big day. Jess started her career part-time in the Pro Shop, learning the ropes of hospitality before moving into events, where she’s gone on to win awards for her creativity and dedication. From organising and styling to perfecting every detail, she ensures each celebration flows seamlessly, balancing the big moments with the little touches that make weddings truly unforgettable.

David McEachran, Assistant Head Concierge

“For many guests, the Old Course Hotel is a bucket list experience and it’s a pleasure to be a part of making sure it’s an unforgettable one.”

David brings warmth, expertise, and a knack for creating seamless stays to every interaction at the Old Course Hotel. Formerly with Sky TV, he’s embarked on a second career as a concierge, loving the chance to make every visit memorable. From arranging local tours and managing luggage to helping guests navigate St Andrews’ many must-sees and hidden gems, David ensures each experience feels personal.
