'Home of Scottish Cuisine' recognised at the Scottish Hotel Awards
The five red star Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort and Spa in St Andrews has picked up not one, but four awards at the Scottish Hotel Awards, including Hotel Restaurant of the Year … less than a week after the successful re-launch of its iconic Road Hole Res
The 9th annual Scottish Hotel Awards - dubbed the “flagship awards for the Scottish hotel industry” by First Minister, Alex Salmond - aims to encourage and recognise only the highest standards.
The restaurant award is fantastic recognition for Road Hole Restaurant Head, Ross Marshall, who – together with the resort's Master of Culinary Arts, Simon Whitley – has overseen the complete re-launch of the fourth-floor restaurant’s dining concept. Ross explains: “The past few weeks have been very special. The timing of the award is perfect." Ross adds: "Our new menus – for lunch and dinner across seven days of the week - showcase the very best seasonal, Scottish produce. To be recognised as the 'Best Hotel Restaurant in Scotland' is not only a great honour but also a fabulous testimony to everyone’s hard work."
A full two years in the planning, the new restaurant concept has been rolled out under the watchful eye of Simon Whitley, Director of Food & Beverage. Simon explains the significance of the latest award: “My aim is to build our reputation for creating and serving the most amazing cuisine from the very best seasonal, Scottish ingredients. We want to be the 'Home of Scottish Cuisine, in the Home of Golf'. For us, this is not just a slogan. It is a promise to our customers, and a promise the Scottish Hotel Award recognises. We are thrilled.”
Five star dining is not the only area in which the resort has emerged triumphant. The Jigger Inn’s famous landlady, Antoinette Leask, now proudly holds a Hospitality Gold Medal, and the resort’s luxury Kohler Waters Spa boasts the best spa treatments in Scotland thanks to the “Spa Treatments Award”. Finally, the undeniable romance of the West Sands retreat is captured through the “Honeymoon Hotel of the Year Award.”
Resort General Manager Daniel Pereira says: “We were up against the very best in Scotland. So to be recognised as a luxury resort at the top of our game is a wonderful reward for the team's hard work across the whole resort." Daniel adds: "We were absolutely thrilled for Antoinette to be awarded a Gold Medal in the Olympic year! Her welcome for all customers at the world's most famous 19th hole is unique – every Jigger Inn customer is a VIP in her eyes. She personifies our ambition to deliver outrageous five star experiences."
