Home of Golf's Master of Culinary Arts Heads to The Masters
For the third year running, Food & Beverage Director at The Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa in St Andrews heads to Augusta to prepare the most exclusive cocktail party in golf.
Simon Whitley, a Master of the Academy of Culinary Arts, will join a team of American chefs at the Augusta National Club for the final day of the Masters – creating the Champion’s Cocktail Party on Easter Sunday.
Whilst the famous green jacket is being awarded, Simon and a team of twenty eight chefs will be working hard on the finishing touches for the Champion's event … creating a masterful menu that will satisfy the appetites of the greatest golfers on the planet.
Simon explains: "It is a considerable honour to have been invited back and I very much looking forward to working with John Johnston, Director of Operations at Augusta National and his amazing team." Simon adds: "To be able to represent The Old Course Hotel at such a prestigious event is a fantastic testament to the investment in time, resource and skills that we have made in St Andrews. We are the Home of Golf – and are working hard to ensure the resort's reputation is mirrored in both culinary expectation and experience."
Simon flies to Augusta on Wednesday April 4th and will be working at the National Club from the 5th until the main event on the Sunday. Simon adds: "This year's menu is a selection of past champions favourite dishes, all cooked and finished on live theatres in the room where the Augusta members and new champion are introduced.”
Simon is excited by his return to the Masters, saying: "Augusta is the opening major of the golfing season – so the spotlight is focused and magnified on what promises to be a truly exceptional tournament. I will be rooting for a home win – and with so many incredible British golfers now in the top flight, I would love to see a home-grown champion don the green blazer come Sunday afternoon. That would be the icing on the cake."
Daniel Pereira, General Manager at the five red star resort says: “Over the past few years, the Old Course Hotel has become synonymous with the very best quality and award-winning cuisine – and so much of that recognition is down to Simon Whitley and his wonderfully talented team of chefs." Daniel adds: "To be asked to be a member of such an illustrious team of chefs at the Masters is an amazing honour. To be asked three years in a row is exceptional – and the entire resort is very proud indeed of Simon."
