Fact Sheet - Golf

St Andrews is renowned worldwide as “The Home of Golf” with no less than 10 courses in the immediate area and more than 30 within a half-hour’s drive. The 10 courses in the town, which suit all player levels, make St Andrews the largest golf complex in Europe and the world’s leading golf destination. Championship courses in the immediate area include the famous Old Course and the New Course, managed by St Andrews Links Trust; the resort’s own Duke's St Andrews; and Kingsbarns. Within driving distance is Carnoustie and Open qualifying courses such as Crail and Lundin Links.

The Duke's, owned and managed by the Old Course Hotel, is a lush, heathland golf course perched on the hillside just a few minutes from the hotel. Noted in Golf World's Top 100 Courses in the UK, this championship 18-hole course has magnificent greens, beautiful fairways, a fleet of electric golf buggies and five tees on every hole, making it most appealing to golfers of all abilities.

The rolling terrain of The Duke’s provides spectacular, panoramic views that range from the surrounding countryside to the North Sea and the skyline of St Andrews in the distance. Originally created by the five-times Open champion, Peter Thomson, The Duke’s was re-designed by Tim Liddy, protégé of renowned golf architect Pete Dye. The Duke's is sister venue to US courses Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run at the Kohler Co. owned American Club Resort, Kohler, Wisconsin.
