Bordering the 17th ‘Road Hole’ of the world’s most famous golf course in St Andrews, the home of golf, there is no better place in the world to develop your career in hospitality than the Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa.  A Leading Hotel of the World, 5 red star resort and Scottish Golf Hotel of the Year for two consecutive years, the Old Course Hotel truly lives up to its reputation as Scotland’s finest.  This year will be a particularly exciting year since the Old Course Hotel is the official hotel for the players throughout the 2010 Open when the championship returns St Andrews for this special 150th anniversary.

Basic Function

To assist Restaurant Management Team within the department in maintaining standards of food quality, service, hygiene, sales and communication operating procedures.  Ensure that guests are provided with an efficient, friendly and courteous service.

Specific Responsibilities

1.    Always adhere to weekly rota, be efficient and courteous at all times towards guests and at all times assume a helpful attitude towards guest and colleagues alike.
2.    Be familiar with all Hotel facilities and their hours of operation.
3.    Be conversant with the hotels health and safety procedures, accident reporting procedures, safety rules, first aid arrangements, how to report unsafe conditions, licensing law, fire equipment, evacuation procedures, protective clothing.
4.    Follow good grooming and hygiene habits on a daily basis and report to work in correct, clean uniform.  At all times articulate and speak in positive conservative tone.  Be responsible also for the appearance of any commis waiter working under you.
5.    Ensure mise en place duties and preparation of room and still room area for service are in accordance with the hotels standards of practice.
6.    Be conversant with relevant control, maintenance, equipment, par stocks, requisition, storage, systems and policies and to adhere to these at all times.
7.    To gain knowledge of all styles and sequences of service and become familiar with the state of food and beverage areas after service.  To be specifically responsible for a station as designated by the senior manager on duty and be responsible for encouraging and training any commis under you where appropriate.
8.    Ensure familiar with composition of all dishes on the menu as per menu specification in order to be able to advise guests in the selection of food and beverage.
9.    Be continually aware of opportunities to increase sales through offering beverages, desserts, cheese, liquers and up selling high profit items.
10.    To be conscious that you might have to assist other departments if so called upon.
11.    Attend all relevant departmental training sessions, pre service meetings and communication meetings.

Eligibility

Candidates must be resident in the UK and be in possession of proof of Identity and the right to work in the UK - this documentation will be required as part of the registration process.

Requirements

Essential Requirements:
Previous hospitality experience, essentially within similar operation
Good leadership skills and ability to take ownership and delegate
Strong communication skills and ability to handle all types of clientele

Desirable requirements: 
Hospitality qualification, equivalent to SVQ or HNC level
Expereince in a 5 star property
